100-ish Word Thought: Message or Messenger?

Social media marketing tips & tricks, beige graphic reading "message or messenger?", Julianne Smith

Chicken Or The Egg

When I worked in politics, we always said if there was a PR problem it was one of two things: the message or the messenger. The audience either didn't like the words they were hearing (the message) or the person delivering those words (the messenger). Message and messenger were always treated as two distinctly different issues to fix. This rule applies to the wedding space too. If you aren't as booked as you'd like, or you're unhappy with the quality of clients, you can tweak your message, or your messenger. Your message is things like branding, design, packages, or website copy. Your messenger is the delivery source; it's how leads find their way to you. Shocker, your marketing is your messenger. Social media, networking, referrals, conferences, SEO, Pinterest - these are all messengers sending you leads. The issue is that too often wedding pros are in a constant state of message fixing when, really, all along it's a messenger issue. You can re-write your copy until your blue in the face, but if no one see its, what's the point? No amount of message fixing will fix a broken messenger system.
